The successful and innovative Crystal Palace Festival will be returning to the Triangle in a festive form on Saturday 29 May 2010, offering a fresh mix of music, food, film and fun. Visitors and locals are invited to enjoy a full program of entertainment and fun. It’s going to be no small feat to top the last festival at Christmas, but you can be sure it will do.
DUBBED ‘THE UNDERGROUND’ FESTIVAL, THE FESTIVAL WILL CELEBRATE THE OPENING OF THE EAST LONDON TUBE LINE LINE ON 23 MAY IN CRYSTAL PALACE, LINKING DALSTON JUNCTION TO WEST CROYDON VIA NEW CROSS AND WHITECHAPEL AND FINALLY PUTTING CRYSTAL PALACE ON THE TUBE LINE FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE LINE WILL ALSO STOP AT SYDENHAM, FOREST HILL, HONOUR OAK PARK, BROCKLEY, SURREY KEYS, CANADA WATER AND ROTHERHITHE, CONNECTING TO THE JUBILEE AND HAMMERSMITH AND CITY LINES AS WELL AS DOCKLANDS LIGHT RAILWAY.
Set up by Andy Bambino, who says of The Underground Festival, “We have waited a long time to see the tube arrive here, so we are throwing a party to celebrate”, The Crystal Palace Triangle Free Festivals have grown organically with more and more traders, pubs and restaurants joining in the fun. The event is underpinned by the brilliant selection of live music in the Triangle’s many pubs and the three interesting markets selling antiques/retro/food/craft/books and records. People are invited to set up street stalls selling home-made produce and bric-a-brac. There’s still much more to be announced, though expect many festive additions in the coming weeks!
