Haynes Lane Art Market

March 8, 2010
By Chris

On Easter Saturday, 3rd April 2010, Crystal Palace’s historic Haynes Lane will host an exciting new open air Art Market showcasing the talents of South London artists. This event is an opportunity for the public to view new contemporary work, discuss the various creative processes involved, and buy pieces direct saving those expensive gallery commissions.

The Market will contain around twenty artists showing over a hundred works of art. The show promises a mixture of medium and styles including paint, photography, print making, mixed media and graffiti. Examples of work and a full list of artists can be found on the web site www.hayneslaneartmarket.com. Prices will range from under ÂŁ50 to over ÂŁ500 so there will be something for every art lovers pocket. Admission is free.

The event is organised by two local artists, Timothy Sutton and Shiroma Ratne. As well as being an award winning portrait painter, Timothy is also known for organising Brixton’s Urban Art event, an annual open air arts festival held in Josephine Avenue. Shiroma is well established painter and printer maker with studios based in Streatham.

Quoting Timothy “The reaction from artists has been amazing. More and more artists are ‘doing it for themselves’ and finding alternatives to the traditional gallery circuit. It’s also much more rewarding for the buyers to meet the artist adds a personal value to the art they hang on their walls. There is a huge wealth of creative talent South of the River and we are hoping this event will help highlight this. If all goes well we are hoping to run another Art Market at Haynes Lane later in the year”.
